Outreach Ministries

Prayer Team (Team Leader: Roxie Taylor)

We believe that to live as a community of vision, we must be committing everything to prayer. This team is responsible for keeping that at the forefront of everyone’s mind.

This team plans prayer events and works with other teams to make sure that all we do as a community is prayed for. Upcoming events include community prayer walking and a concert of prayer with other faith communities in the Valley.

Missions and Ministry Team (Team Leader: Genise Burgess)

Ministry and Mission is the service arm of Bethel. It is the team that guides our community outside its walls to meet the needs of the San Fernando Valley. The role of this team is to meet the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual needs of those outside of the community. This includes working with social justice issues like poverty, homelessness, healthcare, immigration and the like. This team will be leading our poverty initiative begin in September. They also lead our monthly homeless meals.

Lutheran Social Services (LSS): Hunger and Poverty Initiative

Bethel believes deeply in the scripture in Matthew 25 that says “When I was hungry you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. What ever you do unto the least of these you do unto me.” Thus we have partnered with LSS to make a real difference In the San Fernando Valley.

Starting in August, Bethel will begin a monthly homeless dinner served at Central Lutheran Church. This is a great opportunity to get involved in to meet the needs of a consistently overlooked population in society.

Other projects we are working on or have worked on include: (I would like each of these to have a link they could click on to download a flyer)

Christmas in July: We also are working to collect 100 children’s gifts for the Christmas in July/August project. (click on link to see flyer)

Poverty Walk-a-Thon: September 12 many of Bethel’s members will participate in the annual walk-a-thon to aid in all of LSS ministries. Come walk with us at Lake Balboa and be a part or give here.

Food Drives: Bethel collects food, clothing, and goods every week to help care for families in need. Feel free to bring any items you might want to donate to 17500 Burbank Blvd.

The Poverty Initiative: The entire month of September and part of October, Bethel will be focusing all of its resources, its time, its studies to learn more about poverty and our ability as a community, walking in the way of Jesus, to make a difference and help end poverty. We will have weekly service projects including Habitat for Humanity projects, Homeless meals, the LSS Walk-a –Thon and many more.

Outreach and Evangelism Team
(Team Leader: Wallyce Todd)

The Outreach and Evangelism team is the arm of the church that brings people into our community. This is done on three different levels.

Level One: Exposure
This level of outreach is to bring people onto campus. The goal is to get people comfortable with our church and the vision that we have. This is done through seminars, concerts, theatre, carnivals, block parties, etc.

Level Two: Intentional Community Building
This level of outreach is intended to guide people into the church. To show those in our community that we are here for them, that we desire to meet their needs and guide them into healthy active relationships with our community. This is done by inviting friends to church, worship events, small groups, etc

Level Three: Evangelism events
This level of outreach is for the purpose of sharing the heart of God with those who have yet to come to relationship with Him. This may lead to people coming to our church or it may not, but we will guide them to one intentional faith community or another.
